2nd Week of March: Settling in...

A nor'easter was blowing in that promised to keep me trapped at the barn from Sunday through Tuesday.

I stocked up on supplies and put them in the room without heat. Here we have the 'juice bar'. The safe in the cabinet was useful for storing leftovers out of range of dogs and vermin.

Again, the mare has given me cause to suspect that I shouldn't stray far from the barn... view the gory details of WHY it seemed prudent to stay trapped at the barn!

The room has gotten a little less organized since it all started. Dad, the outdoorsman, eagerly makes sure I'm stocked up with the essentials: a handy dandy hot plate and saucepan.

Those are K-Mart thermal socks on the TV. They rule. Buy them, I"m not kidding, they're wonderful.

Heather, brave soul that she is, decided at the last minute to hole up in the barn with me for the storm. It's awesome having a horse fan for a sister!

It turned out to be a good choice for her, she lives in the sticks and the power went and her driveway was never plowed. She stayed a lot warmer in the barn office with me and got to watch slightly more interesting TV than she could have without power.

We're discussing the finer points of horse activities in their stalls when they don't think humans are watching.

This is a little payback for all the photos I've been taking of everyone. I really hate having my picture taken, I make rather silly faces.

Look! I'm nearly halfway through the damn Douglas Adams series!

This is the funniest thing I have ever seen, (well maybe not, but anyhow), Heather is talking on the cell phone, to our sister Laurel in Tenn., using the headset. She's taking pictures of herself talking while I'm off entertaining myself by cleaning stalls or something. I discovered these great pics later on...

Then I come back in. There was WAY too much giggling for someone who was alone by themselves in a tiny room.

Ha ha. You can see I'm not nearly as photogenic (or pleased about it) as she is.

Ah. Then the great moment arrives when the snow stopped.

I called in to work to discover that they WERE open and expecting us in?
(this was taken around noontime after the plow did the driveway).
I didn't go.

Since Heath is in a big hurry, (she's watched the mare's butt for long enough I guess), I stand around an keep busy with the camera now. Ha ha HA!

Late in the afternoon, Beth drops by to see if we haven't all killed each other yet.

Look! She gets to have a nice cold Diet Dr. Pepper!
(good friends and cold diet drinks, does life get any better?)

That's the pharmacy behind her. Yes, those are baby bottles. They're for in case the mare begins to loose colostrum and we have to save it (fortunately the fridge is a constant 30 degrees here!)

The die-hard Lynn is back again. We're reheating chinese food. The hot plate, for some inexplicable reason, kept shocking me. Pavlovian theory didn't hold for me though. I just dealt with it.
